GDPR Privacy Policy

Who are ‘We’?

In this policy, whenever the term ‘you’ or ‘your’ is used it refers to the reader. Additionally when you see the words ‘we’, ‘us’, ‘our’ or ‘Data Harvest’, it refers to Data Harvest Group Ltd. Data Harvest is a UK registered company (Registration Number 1933090) with offices based at the following location:

Data Harvest Group Ltd.
1 Eden Court
Eden Way
Leighton Buzzard
Bedfordshire
LU7 4FY
United Kingdom

Data Harvest was established in Leighton Buzzard in the UK in 1982. We design, manufacture, sell and provide technical support and training on products aimed at teaching STEM within schools both in the UK and locations all around the world. We perform marketing, research and advertising in order to fulfil our business activities and to ensure the products and support services we offer are relevant, up to date and ensure you know about them.

Data Harvest acts as both a data controller and a data processor. A data controller is the organisation (i.e. Data Harvest) who decides what personal information is collected and how it is used. There may be situations where we process data on the instructions of another organisation (i.e. you buy a product from Company A who then provides us with your details so that we can fulfil the shipping of the products). In this situation our use of the data is governed by that organisation.

If you have any questions about this privacy policy or would like to know what personal data we hold about you, please e-mail [email protected].

What personal data do we collect?

We will collect personal data (i.e. any information which identifies you, or which can be identified as relating to you personally) in order to carry out our day to day business activities. We’ll only collect the personal data that we need to fulfil our business activities.

Examples of the information we collect about you are:

  • Organisation name
  • Individuals name
  • Job title
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • E-mail address

Examples of activities are quotation and order processing, technical support, product updates and communications that we believe are relevant to you because of our existing business relationships with you.

How do we obtain personal data?

We may collect your personal data from the following sources.

You will give us personal information when:
  • you contact Data Harvest (for example for a quotation, technical support or sales order)
  • you provide feedback or answer surveys
  • you register on our website
  • you supply us with a business card or other business related communications

We will process this information so that we can provide the products and services that you have requested or shown interest in.

We occasionally may purchase contact databases which may contain the personal information detailed above or only contain generic details such as ‘Head of Science’ at a particular organisation. We may use this information to send marketing communications about products and services we offer.

Sensitive personal data

We do not collect, store or process any sensitive personal data (i.e. medical records or criminal records) to conduct our business activities. Where necessary for recruitment and employment we may be required to perform criminal record checks and other relevant searches.

Children’s personal information

We do not collect, store or process any information about children. Where we have used pictures of children in our published materials we have sought the appropriate permissions from the relevant parties.

What will we use your data for?

We may process your data for the following reasons:
  • Contractual requirements
  • Legitimate interest

Contractual Requirements

We may process your data in order to:
  • Provide you with information that you have requested about our products and services

  • Where we act as a data processor, we will send you the products and services that we have been instructed to by your supplier.

Legitimate Interest

We have a legitimate interest in keeping you up to date with information on our products and services. We continually develop new products and services and make improvements to existing offerings. This can include complementary products that could enhance or broaden the scope of items you have purchased from us as well as improvements such as software updates that may provide new functionality or fix errors that you may or may not be aware of.

It is in our legitimate interest that you are kept fully up to date with the developments we make. It is also in your legitimate interest that we contact you with any warranty information or technical support information that you require to use your products effectively and within any requirements specified by the product warranty.

  • Technical support information
  • Updates to products that you own
  • Information about new products and services which may be of interest to you
  • Information about curriculum updates and changes
  • Provide you with information that we believe will be of benefit (some examples are funding opportunities, training events and exhibitions)
  • Opportunities to receive product training and product demonstrations

Marketing In order to keep you up to date we do send marketing communications. These can be in the form of e-mails, postal services and telephone conversations. A few examples of the marketing communications we send are:
  • Product brochures
  • Promotional information
  • Product demonstrations
  • New product releases

We understand that excessive marketing communications can cause unnecessary distress. It is our aim to make any communications we have with you relevant and interesting as well as providing you with new information. We do not send large amounts of marketing communications or send any information on a regular basis. We do not use automated processing techniques to target you.

Marketing opt out

You have the right to opt out from receiving marketing communications. Please either click the unsubscribe link in any marketing e-mails you receive or send an e-mail to [email protected] with the words ‘Unsubscribe’ in the subject line. Please provide a full list of contact details you would like removed to ensure this process works effectively.

How long do we keep information for?

We will keep your information for as long as necessary to provide you with product support. We continue to provide support and servicing for products for several years after we stop manufacturing and selling them. We will need to process your information if you contact us for support reasons.

To enable us to provide support for products we manufacture, we will store information on component suppliers, manufacturers, part number, pricing details and relevant contact information in order that we can ensure continued supply and receive technical support as and when required.

Who we share your information with

We will only use your personal information for our own day to day business activities. Unless you have opted out of marketing communication we may send your contact details to our service providers to send you information on our behalf. We may also use an industry specific contact list supplied by our mailing service to send you marketing communications.

We do not sell or trade your contact details with any person or organisation. We may be required by law to share your personal information with relevant authorities.

Sending personal information outside of the European Union

Data protection law applies to all countries within the European Union (EU). We will only send your personal information to countries outside of the EU to:
  • Comply with a legal duty
  • Comply with your instructions
  • Work with organisations as detailed above who we use to help provide you with our products and services

Data Security

Your data is important to us and we take the security of your data seriously. We use the latest security certificates to identify our website and servers, regularly review IT policies and perform appropriate staff training.

If you choose not to provide your data

By providing your personal data it helps ensure that you are able to obtain the products and services that you want. We may process the necessary data you supply to us in order to do this. Some organisations prefer to use generic contact details such as [email protected] rather than supply an individual’s name. We are typically still able to provide you with product and services if this is how you want to be contacted. We will advise you if there are any problems. App Privacy:
